About the Author:
Dr. Lazzaro has 26 years of professional experience as an ophthalmologist, with 12 years as a professor and a chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, before joining NYU Langone Health in 2017. Dr. Lazzaro also serves as a vice-chairman of operations, clinical affairs, and business development. Throughout his career, he has become adept at performing complicated corneal transplants, laser vision correction, and diagnosis and management of complicated corneal and external diseases. On a daily basis, he is responsible for overseeing ophthalmology operations at multiple sites for FGP while also providing oversight for the resident H and H locations.
Dr. Samy I. McFarlane has extensive experience in clinical and translational research in the area of prevention of diabetes and its complications. He served as the chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism and as medical director of Clinical Research at SUNY-Downstate-Health Science University. Dr. McFarlane is the editor of several books and has authored over 300 publications on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and related disorders. His work has attracted over 250,000 reads and over 10,000 citations at major medical journals. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Clinical Research and Trials, served as a 3-term member and as a chair of the NIH-NIDDK committee, and has also served as the Brooklyn district president for the American College of Physicians. Dr. McFarlane has also received a ertificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the US House of Representatives. He is a well-recognized mentor with trainees in leadership positions at the NIH and other major institutions.
